What to Expect When You Arrive in the North Cariboo


Visiting the North Cariboo will give you and your family and friends years of fun filled memories. You will want to come back each year to take in all the outdoor activities and adventure opportunities that are at hand in the area.

For those of you familiar with North Cariboo, after settling in at your accommodation, you can take some of your old favorite activites like walking through Pinnacles Park, or packing everyone up and heading out to Barkerville. We invite you to try out some of the new adventures like a tour at Cottonwood House Historic Site.

We are happy to help local residents and visiting family and friends in finding activities throughout the winter. We invite you to call the Visitor Information Centre at 250.992.8716 or stop by and speak with our helpful staff to plan an afternoon or weekend in the North Cariboo.

QUESNEL FARMERS MARKET

The Quesnel Farmers Market can be found every Saturday from now until the fall at the Helen Dixon Field across from the Legion on Kinchant. Join the merchants, tourists and locals for fresh veggies, breads, meat and all kinds of homemade products.

BARKERVILLE OPENS MAY 10th

The Historic Town of Barkerville will open this year on May 10th with showings at the Theatre Royale. From May 15th to June 17th you can enjoy the one hour musical "Rough But Honnest Miner V"

Dragon Lake near Quesnel

Quesnel is nestled in between the Fraser River and the Quesnel River just before they join and become the Fraser River. Quesnel is a quaint and comfortable community that welcomes everyone and is always excited to meet new people and learn new things. Visit Downtown Quesnel for unique shopping, visit the Quesnel Museum for unique history or visit the Quesnel Visitor Center for all the information that you need about the entire area and more!

Quesnel is the beautiful central service area for the North Cariboo. You’ll enjoy our perfect combination of rural charm and quiet city sophistication.

Barkerville

Barkerville

Barkerville is located at the end of Highway 26 approximately 1hour and 15 minutes from Quesnel and 5 minutes from Wells..

People came from miles around to participate in the Gold Rush and now people come to experience the Gold Rush; from the original buildings and structures to the 'original townfolk' complete with accents and costumes, Barkerville is the place to spend the day.

Cottonwood House

Cottonwood House Historic Site located 26 miles East of Quesnel on Highway 26. The Cottonwood House is a historic site that used to be a Roadhouse along the Gold Rush Trail on the way to Barkerville. With wagon rides, walk-a-bouts, tours and much more; Cottonwood Historic Site is a great place to take a rest on your way to Barkerville.

Bowron Lake

Bowron Lake Provincial Park is a magnificent wilderness of more than 120,000 hectares, roughly rectangular in shape and characterized by a system of nine major lakes and connecting waterways.

Wells

Wells is a thriving small community in a spectacular mountain setting. Families, artists, and sportspeople travel to Wells for exciting, creative getaways.

Nazko

The Nazko Valley is within the traditional territory of the Carrier First Nations people. Come visit our beautiful rivers and lakes, vast forests and mountains and fresh air. This is where fishing is at its best.

Blackwater

For those interested in fishing, the Blackwater River is a world class fly-fishing river. This river is famous the world over.
