Bowron Lake Provincial Park

Bowron Lake Provincial Park is a magnificent wilderness of more than 120,000 hectares, roughly rectangular in shape and characterized by a system of nine major lakes and connecting waterways. The total distance around the chain is 116 km (73 miles). Access to the park is by a well maintained gravel road, 28 km in length from Barkerville.

The park is located in the heart of the Cariboo Mountains with peaks averaging about 2300 m or 7500 ft. The main activities within this provincial park are canoeing and camping. Plan on five to seven days at a moderate pace to complete the circuit by canoe. If three or four days are all you have, try canoeing and camping on the west side of the chain, from Bowron Lake to Spectacle Lakes or even down to Unna Lake to see the 80 ft. Cariboo River falls, a breathtaking marvel.

The park is a wildlife sanctuary, closed for hunting. You may see big game such as moose, caribou, black or grizzly bear, mountain goat or deer. Beaver, muskrat and mink also call the park their home.

Bring your camera and lots of film or storage media (for digital camera users).
